Scholars That Care
CCBC Essex and Johns Hopkins Bayview
IND partners with Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center and the Community College of Baltimore County-Essex for the Scholars That Care program, which helps mentor and guide students interested in health care.
Students with a minimum GPA of 3.0 apply for the program during the spring semester of their junior year. During the summer before their junior year, interested students volunteer at Johns Hopkins Bayview to gain exposure to the health care field. While volunteering, students have an opportunity to apply for paid non-clinical nursing positions.
Each year, up to two students are selected to attend CCBC-Essex with full tuition support. They complete both the core college and nursing requirements. During this time, accepted students are required to work part-time at Johns Hopkins Bayview. After nursing fundamentals are completed, students have the opportunity to advance their skills in other roles at the Medical Center. Upon completion of the associate’s degree in nursing, students apply for registered nurse (RN) positions at Johns Hopkins Bayview.
