The Social Studies Department recognizes that a rigorous study of history is part of a well-rounded student’s education and will help prepare her to be a responsible citizen of the United States. Students are required to take three and a half (3.5) credits of social studies. Many students, however, elect to take four (4) credits. Below is a list of social studies course selections according to grade and level:
Freshman
Access and College Prep: Geography
Honors: Honors World History
Sophomore
Access and College Prep: World History
Junior
Access and College Prep: U.S. History
Honors: AP U.S. History
Senior
College Prep and Honors: Government and Contemporary History (Government students may take the AP Government exam.)
Social Studies elective courses include Civil and Criminal Justice, African-American History, Intro to Sociology; American Women’s Studies; History through Film, and Intro to Psychology.
