Ambassadors
The Ambassador Club promotes IND to prospective students and their families. Members assist the Admissions Office with recruitment and represent the school at official functions. Membership is limited and offered to sophomores, juniors and seniors.
Bond to Bond
The Institute of Notre Dame and the Human Resources Department at Johns Hopkins Hospital have created a partnership through which students interested in medical careers are provided with guidance and leadership as they pursue their high school studies. The mentors encourage these students to maintain solid academic performance, to pursue higher education, and to build decision-making, problem solving and communication skills.
Campus Ministry
The Campus Ministry team is comprised of members from all four grade levels and assists the Campus Minister in planning and carrying out all projects, including liturgies, Advent and Lenten Activities and service projects.
Cultural Awareness Club
The Cultural Awareness Club is open to all students interested in sharing and learning about various cultural groups on a school and regional level. Annually, the club organizes IND's forum on Diversity and Tolerance, an event that opens a space for dialogue on diverse issues surrounding the themes of diversity and tolerance. In addition, the club sponsors a Cultural Extravaganza, a celebration of music, dance, poetry, and food of other cultures.
Drama Club
Drama Club teaches members drama exercises, play acting, and mime expression. During Christmas and at the end of the year students perform in a public stage production.
Future Health Care Professionals Club
The Future Health Care Professionals Club aims to nurture students' interest in the medical field through interactions with guest speakers, outings, and service opportunities. This exposure to the field of healthcare will help students discern their calling to be medical professionals.
Garland
Since the early forties, Garland has provided an outlet for all students to showcase their creative writing. It is a creative writing magazine that contains poems, essays, illustrations, short stories, and plays
Hildie’s Helpers
Students volunteer to work with Sister Hilda Marie on a variety of projects. They visit senior citizens in Watergate Towers, tutor and entertain children in the Caroline Center. They coordinate Sr. Hildie’s Thanksgiving Food Drive and host the Spring Bazaar.
It’s Academic
“It’s Academic” is a local television quiz show for high school students. The primary goal of the club is to foster an appreciation of learning and knowledge in an intellectual atmosphere. Team members are involved in scrimmages with other schools appear on WJZ-TV’s “It’s Academic” program, and compete in Essex Community College’s televised “Data Race.”
Junior State of America
Meets weekly to discuss, debate and develop public speaking skills. The club is a chapter of Junior State of America, www.jsa.org.
National Art Honor Society
The National Art Honor Society is sponsored by the National Art Education Association. Criteria for membership in the National Art Honor Society emphasize outstanding artistic scholarship and service to the school and community through the development of artistic endeavors together with a strong moral character. By exemplifying these standards, the individual student members of the society promote an awareness of art and become active participants in the education process at their school and in their community.
National Honors Society
National Honors Society is a service organization, as well as an honor society. Membership is opened to juniors and seniors who have met the scholarship requirements as stated in the student handbook. Additionally students must also demonstrate the qualities of leadership, service, and good character. Induction of new members takes place each November. The process is described in the student handbook. Members are expected to commit three hours of each school year to tutoring.
Needlework Club
The Needlework Club offers the opportunity to learn various types of needlework, including cross stitch, knitting and crochet, in an informal setting. One special project is the knitting of newborn caps which are distributed to nearby hospitals
Outdoor Adventures
This club is for the girl who knows that sunshine and dirt are good for the soul. Hiking, caving, and doing some environmental clean-up are among the activities that the Outdoor Adventure Club sponsors.
Peer Mediators
IND’s Conflict Management Program focuses on ways to confront conflict in a creative, nonviolent and empowering manner. One aspect of the program addresses conflict issues on a class-wide basis in areas such as Freshman Orientation. Peer mediators are trained to facilitate conflict mediation sessions.
Peer Ministers
The Peer Ministry program is a junior/senior leadership group for Campus/Youth Ministry. Peer Ministers assist the Youth Minister with planning and executing the day retreats. Peer Ministers also help develop outreach programs for the Youth Ministry department as well as oversee the Halloween, Christmas and Lenten and Easter outreach each year.
Photography Club
The photography Club aims to stimulate interest in the are of photography. Members will acquire good picture taking skills and learn how to develop their black and white photos.
Reading IND! Book Club
Reading IND is primarily a book discussion club. Students strive to learn more about good books and promote reading throughout the IND community. The Club also conducts book drives for schools and libraries in need.
Recycling Club
This club provides a service to IND and to the Earth. The members collect all of the waste paper from classrooms, offices, and assemblies to ensure that the IND community is actively working to help the environment.
S.A.D.D.
Students Against Destructive Decisions (formerly “Student Against Drunk Driving”) started at IND in 1990. This organization aims to make the student body aware of the hazards of drinking and driving, drug use and other harmful behaviors and promotes and encourages positive, healthy decision making.
Senior Service
Is a part of the Youth Ministry program. As its name suggests, is open to seniors whose primary goal is to be of service to aid the student body and to promote school spirit related activities.
Société Honoraire de Français
The French National Honor Society is a honorary service organization. Membership in the society is by invitation only. Students must be in the second semester of their second year of French, maintain an A- cumulative average in French, and a B average in other classes. French Honor Society students help to promote French culture by celebrating National French Week, National World Languages Week, and Cultural Diversity Day. They tutor students in French and participate in field trips to French cultural activities.
Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica
The Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica is sponsor by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese. It was organize in 1953 with the purpose of recognizing high achievement by students of secondary schools and to promote a continuity of interest in Hispanic Studies. To be eligible for membership, students must have studied Spanish for at least 4 semesters at high school level, and have maintained an honors average. Each unit of the Society located in a secondary school is a Chapter. The name of IND Chapter is La Rosa Blanca, the white rose.
Stage Guild
Stage Guild assists with technical support at school at assemblies and major productions. Duties include staging, lighting, and maintenance of props and costumes.
Students Peace Activists
Student Peace Activists (SPA) is an organization that is committed to working against human rights abuse through discussion, assemblies, letter writing, and other educational activities.
Students Sharing Coalition
The club provides meaningful service and community-learning experiences to students from diverse backgrounds with the goal of developing students into mature and knowledgeable citizens who take responsibility for their communities and are committed to social justice.
TASC – Teachers’ and Students’ Cooperative
TASC is IND’s student government and seeks to develop the leadership potential of its members while organizing activities such as fund raisers, the Winter Formal Dance, the Freshman/Sophomore MORP Dance and Open Forum Discussions. TASC consists of an executive board made up of student body officers and class officers, and a general board including senators that represent every homeroom. TASC organizes a leadership workshop every year for all interested students.
Tri-M Music Honor Society
Tri-M is the international music honor society. It is open to sophomores, juniors, and seniors who have excelled in 2 or more credits of music classes during their time at IND. Tri-M focuses on the qualities of leadership, character, scholarship, and service through music. Tri-M members participate in activities such as caroling at nursing homes and hospitals and tutoring students in music classes. Tri-M inductions take place each spring.
wINDows
The school newspaper, wINDows, is published several times a year. Through their work on the paper, students acquire some knowledge of the fundamentals of scholastic journalism, such as news writing, layout, and page proofing. Staff membership is required of all journalism students and is open to any student who would like newspaper experience.
Young Republicans
The YRC gathers to discuss current events and issues, and to examine the range of opinions that are held across the American political spectrum. Part of its mission is to prepare students to be knowledgeable and active citizens as the discern what it means to be a Republican.
Youth Ministry
The youth ministry club provides students from all grade levels the opportunity to serve in the following areas of the Youth/Campus Ministry program: Lectors, Altar Servers/Acolytes, Eucharistic Ministers, Ushers, Liturgical planning committee, planning committees for outreach programs.
