IND offers the academically talented student a unique opportunity to reach her highest potential through a rigorous curriculum.
To be considered for IND's Theresian Scholars Program, students must have a teacher recommendation, an outstanding middle school record (at least an A, B+ or 90% grade point average), and consistently score above grade level (typically in the 90th percentile on standardized tests including the High School Placement Test).
In addition to the standard IND graduation requirements, Theresian Scholars must study one year of Latin, three years of modern foreign language, and at least 20 academic credits at the Honors level.
Theresians must also complete and present a cumulative independent research project. Candidates and scholars are evaluated annually by the Theresian Scholars Board, which oversees the program. Criteria for evaluation is based upon, but not limited to, the following:
- Minimum 85% final average in each Theresian course
- Serious approach to learning
- Commitment to excellence
- Active participation in at least one extracurricular club or sport
- Minimum discipline grade of 90% throughout the 4 years
Students interested in becoming Theresian Scholars are designated Theresian Candidates upon acceptance to IND.
When they successfully meet the program’s academic and extracurricular requirements, they are formally deemed Theresian Scholars at the completion of four years of study at IND and awarded the Theresian Medal at the Baccalaureate Liturgy.
